Sir,
I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury to request you to inform
Secretary Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister that Their attention
has again been drawn to the question of remittances to
and from Hong Kong, which formed the subject of corres- pondence ending with Colonial Office letter 18783/24 of
the 24th April, 1924.
*
Recent correspondence on this subject between
the Financial Adviser to the China Command and the
Treasury Chest Officer, Hong Kong, and a statement of the monthly transactions of the Treasury Chest at Hong Kong for the last 5 years have been communicated to your
Department, and were discussed semi-officially on the 5th
instant.
From that summary, it will be seen that (apart from Army receipts and payments) in recent years the
Treasury Chest has had to raise Hong Kong dollars to the value of between £480,000 and £745,000 a year for the
needs
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
